Abstract. The complexity of the behavior of biological objects at different levels of organization, from molecular to social, is compared. The initial data were obtained for cyanobacterial communities and their fossil structures, stromatolites. The comparison is based on the observed criteria of spatial positioning using triangulation. It is shown that objects at deeper levels of organization exhibit more complex behavior and fractally define the structure of subsequent surface levels, also known as “higher” levels. This is consistent with the earlier findings by Ch. Darwin, C. Bernard, L. V. Belousov, and others who believed that the integrity of organisms has no external sources.
